Steven Gregory Gomez, age 64, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Midland Hospice House.
He was born the son of Elario “Pete” Gomez, Jr., and Beverly Ann Hagadorn on March 11, 1959, in Duluth, MN. At a young age, the family moved to Topeka. He received his First Holy Communion and Confirmation at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Steven graduated in 1977 from Highland Park High School and received a golf scholarship to play at Coffeyville Community College. While at Coffeyville CC, Steven was a highly regarded golfer and was an All-Conference player in the Jayhawk JUCO Conference in 1978 and 1979. He received his associated degree in 1979. He was recently inducted in the Coffeyville Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Coffeyville, he received a golf scholarship to the University of Tulsa. After a year he left to play the mini tour. Steven’s success while playing golf continued. He would go on to win several TGA (Topeka Golf Association) events. Steven was a social butterfly on and off the greens. He enjoyed watching Hayden High School sports, especially with his father, Pete. In his later years, Steven would team up with his friend, Don Dew and the pair dominated the Midwest Senior Circuit.
