Teresa Adamé, 95, the woman, the myth, the legend, passed away on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021.
God whispered, “Come with me”, she took his hand and looked back and bid her family “adios”, now go and celebrate my joy. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on Christmas Eve, in 1925, to Ishmael and Simona Valdivia, their Christmas joy. Teresa was preceded in death by her husband, John Adamé, son Jerry Adamé; daughter-in-law Janice; daughters, Elizabeth Witherell and Jocelyn Engroff, her parents Ishmael and Simona Valdivia, nine siblings, infant Abel Valdivia, Esther Sepulveda, Albert Valdivia, Aurora Campos, Chepo Valdivia, Peter Valdivia, Virginia Ramos, Raymond Valdivia, Frankie Valdivia, and numerous beloved family members.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Gloria) Adamé; Paul (Veronica) Adamé, Ted (Cindi) Valdivia of Topeka; Carleen Adamé-Garza (Daniel Garza) of Des Moines, Iowa; Karen (Dave) Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas; son-in-laws James Witherell of Topeka, Kansas and Clarence Engroff of Lamar, Colorado, along with 16 beautiful grandchildren and 13 wonderful great-grandchildren. Four siblings Mary (Phil) Munoz, Becca Mendez, Abel (Lonnies) Valdivia, Andy “Cokey” (Patty) Valdivia also survive. Teresa truly loved her family and enjoyed caring for and teaching her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren her Mexican nursery rhymes.
Teresa enjoyed a variety of things in her long life. She loved playing bingo, “Going up north” to the casinos, crocheting winter hats, scarves and colorful afghans for her family, creating awesome quilted blankets, embroidering, and cooking for her hungry family along with reading the newspaper and drinking her “Cafecito”! She was passionate about her flowers and plants and also taking other people’s flowers and plants! Teresa made you laugh and smile at least once a day. She led a faith-filled life. Whoever was lucky enough to stop by on Christmas Eve would be treated to her delicious tamales and pork chili. What she didn’t like was having her picture taken! You had to be quite creative to capture her beautiful smile.
The children of Teresa would like to thank our brother Paul, his wife Veronica and all of his family for the love, care, and heroic virtues in caring for our mother these past years. We recognize all the sacrifices you made to put her first and we can never thank you enough for all you have done.
