Teresa Balandran Galvan, age 84, of Topeka, KS, passed away at her home with her family by her side on Thursday, October 29, 2020.
She was born the daughter of Jose Panfilo and Urbana (Marmalejo) Balandran on June 17, 1936 in Topeka, KS.
On June 23, 1990, Teresa married Antonio “Tony” Galvan at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Together, they shared 30 years of marriage.
Through most of her working career, Teresa was a CNA, Medication Aide and Home Health Aide at various nursing homes and St. Francis Hospital. She retired in 1996 from Atria Hearthstone. She was a regular volunteer for Fiesta Mexicana de Topeka, KS (helping with food sales to raise money for Holy Family Schools) and was active as an East Topeka North NIA member. Her generosity would extend to the AARP Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Salvation Army, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and St. Francis Sisters of Charities.
Teresa was an avid sports fan especially watchering her favorite teams, K-State and Kansas City Chiefs. Being a wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother was her greatest joy. Teresa was a marvelous cook and she enjoyed preparing Mexican food for her family, friends and community.
Survivors include her loving husband, Antonio “Tony” Galvan; four sons, Felix Anthony Gonzales, Leonard A. Gonzales (Misty Zappa), Peter T. Gonzales (Kim), Orlando R. Gonzales; two daughters, Diana M. Camarillo (Ricardo) and Patricia Aredondo (Gilbert); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores Balandran, Rita Pierce and one brother, Jose Balandran.
Teresa will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 P.M., with a Rosary at 5:00 P.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow after the services and inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made in Teresa’s loving memory to the AARP Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
