Thomas "Tom" R. Florez

Thomas “Tom” R. Florez, age 57, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health System-St. Francis Campus.

Tom was born the son of Francisco “Jimmy” Sr., and Emilia O. (Ortiz) Florez on September 1, 1963.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Tom took great pride in taking care of his lawn, always having the pool ready for his family and ready to BBQ. He would love to cheer on the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. Spending time with his children and two grandchildren was his greatest joy.

Tom was a Service Technician with AT&T and retired after 32 plus years. He married Roxann Munoz on September 10, 1983, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. To this union, they had four children. They later divorced.

Survivors include his son, Thomas “Tommy” P. Florez; daughter, Emilia “Emily” S. Florez and her husband Ryan Landes; daughter, Jami N. Florez and her significant other, Brian Hollister; son, Ian M. Florez; two grandchildren, Cain A. and Lydia R. Landes; two brothers, Paul Florez and his wife Bonnie, Frank Florez. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Tom will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday, June 27, 2021, from 3-6:00 P.M., with a rosary at 5:30 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow after the Mass and he will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
