Thomasene “Tommie” Weissbeck, 88, Topeka, passed away peacefully on December 13, after a short illness.
Thomasene was born at a hospital in Corning, Kansas on October 9, 1931. Daughter of Michael and Margaret (Adams) Noud. She was raised on a farm near Lillis, (Marshall County), Kansas. The farm had no electricity or running water.
After graduating from a class of four, from Lillis High School, Thomasene went on to graduate from the nursing school at Providence Hospital and did her psychiatric training at Halstead.
Thomasene worked as a Registered Nurse for the VA Hospitals of Eastern Kansas for over 38 years, including Wadsworth, Winter, and Colmery-O’Neil VA.
After retiring, Thomasene guided by her Catholic faith, spent many hours volunteering for her parish, Christ the King Catholic Church. Part of her volunteer work included nearly 25 years at Let’s Help and helping with church funeral luncheons. She also volunteered for the Designer Showhouse, Treasures of the Czars and was a poll worker for many elections. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe. She visited over eight countries and her most memorable was seeing the Vatican and the pyramids of Egypt.
She married Eugene L. Weissbeck at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillis, Kansas on September 15, 1956. She is preceded her in death by her husband on June 26, 1971 and her brother, William Noud.
Thomasene is survived by her three sons, William (Sharon) Weissbeck, of Schererville, Indiana, Joseph Weissbeck of Topeka, Kansas, and Edward Weissbeck of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, AM3 Joshua Weissbeck with the US Navy, stationed in San Diego, California, Emma Weissbeck, and Allison Weissbeck both of Schererville, Indiana; her sister Elizabeth Keating of Centralia, Kansas; and three brothers, Thomas (Dorothy) Noud of St. Anthony, Minnesota, Michael (JoAnn) Noud of Lillis, Kansas, and Patrick Noud of Leawood, Kansas.
By her wishes, Thomasene was cremated.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9-10:00 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:00 A.M. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M., all at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th St., Topeka, KS 66614.
Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.
