Tristan James Weichert was born on a beautiful September 20th day in 1998 to his parents Zac and Lyn. There was such a celebration at his birth, as all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins welcomed him into the world. Tristan died on June 18th, 2024, leaving behind a host of people who love him.
There are so many words to describe Tristan; smart, witty, daring, and mischievous; and always with that great smile that got him into and out of trouble on many occasions. Tristan grew up in Topeka, attending Randolph Elementary, Robinson Middle School and Topeka High, graduating in 2017. He always wanted to help others; with his great sense of humor and award-winning smile, endearing himself to teachers and fellow students alike.
Tristan really enjoyed sports, playing baseball, football and basketball while growing up, but baseball always seemed to be his favorite, from an early age. He played from the time he was five, through high school. Early in his career, at about age 6, he once played nearly every position in a game, running from position to position to help the other players, whether they needed it or not. His favorite position was at the pitcher's mound, and he was at his best when his brother Isaac was behind the plate as catcher. Together they were a dynamic duo. Tristan also excelled at Rock-Paper-Scissors, probably as a result of growing up with three brothers. In the fall of 2010, he entered the Annual R-P-S contest at the Walnut Valley Festival Campground in Winfield KS. This contest is usually just for adults, but because he was so cute, his winning smile convinced them to let him enter. Besides, they were sure he could not win. Only win he did, defeating challenger after challenger until no one else was left, he won the title as 2010 Champion! They never allowed children to enter the contest after that year.
Tristan was kind and had so much love for others, especially his family. As he grew older, not everyone could always see that side of him, but those who loved him always knew it was there. Extended family gatherings were always a favorite time in Tristan's life. He was fiercely loyal and committed to his brothers. He both aggravated and looked up to his older brother Zack; he schemed and planned with his younger brother Isaac; and he tormented and protected his baby brother Eli. Above all else, he loved them all dearly.
After graduating from high school Tristan struggled with the complexities of life. He became a writer, keeping journals on his thoughts and travels as a bit of a nomad, never staying in one place too long, but always gravitating back to those who loved him. He was especially close to his brother Isaac, who's death in late 2011 rocked Tristan's world. Life was not easy for Tristan after his brother's death. He never quite recovered from that loss and lived the rest of his short life with a broken heart.
Through all of this, there are so many people who loved him. People whose lives Tristan touched with kindness and his sense of humor. For those who love and survive him; his mother Lyn Dugan Weichert, his father Zac Weichert and stepmother Jennifer Forshee-Weichert, his brothers Zackery Weichert (Brea Oglesby), Eli Weichert, and his stepsister Maggie Forshee, his grandparents Karren and Ivan Weichert, his grandmother Priscilla Dugan, grandfather Don Dugan, his great grandmother Violet Woods, his aunts who continually supported him Dawn
McMullen (Jimmy), Jessica Weichert Schell, and his uncle Micah Weichert, along with many great aunts, great uncles and lots of cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother/best friend Isaac Weichert, his great aunt Dennise Weichert, his great uncle Larry Langston, and his step grandmother MaryAnn Dugan.
There will never be another Tristan, he was unique and so very special. We will carry the memory of him in our hearts forever and will never forget his wonderful smile.
