Vanda E. Collins, age 67, of Topeka, KS, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Vanda was born the daughter of Chester O. and Dora (Tetamo) Wood in Wichita, KS on September 3, 1952. Vanda was a very giving, fun, exquisite woman whom fiercely loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and cooking for friends and family. You could find Vanda on Sundays, cheering on her beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Her world revolved around her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would attend all their sporting and school events. They all referred to her as, “Mummzie.” She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as secretary for the organization. She was currently working for the Kansas Dental Board. Survivors include her daughter, Candace Thoennes and her husband Jeremy; two sons, Marty Collins and his wife Sherry, Jonathan Collins and his wife Rebecca all of Topeka; sister, Esther Snellings, residing at Aldersgate Village in Topeka; seven grandchildren, Tevin Collins, Courtney Knight, Joey Thoennes, Abby Snyder, Jordy Collins, Kennedy Collins & Paisley Collins; three great-grandchildren, Braxton, Carter & Kinzleigh Knight. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Roy Snellings. A memorial visitation will be held from 5-6:30 PM, followed by a Remembrance and Words of Sharing at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, June 22, 2020, both being held at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
