Virgil “Glenn” Proctor, 80, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, after extended battles with cancer and dementia.
Glenn was born on October 16, 1944, in Holton, Kansas, to Virgil Guy Proctor and Merle Elizabeth (Conner) Proctor and grew up in Soldier, Kansas.
After graduating from Soldier High School, Glenn went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Kansas State University in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War until 1969.
On September 13, 1969, Glenn married Joanne Marie Wolfkill in Baltimore, Maryland and then settled in Topeka, Kansas. Together, they built a loving marriage spanning 55 wonderful years.
Glenn spent his entire professional life at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, where his dedication and leadership culminated in his role as Director of Membership Services when he retired in 2004.
He was a hard-working, kind and caring man who never hesitated to help others. In his leisure time, Glenn loved golfing, fishing, boating and spending time at the family cabin at Lake Pomona. He was a talented handyman and liked building and fixing things. He also was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching golf, Kansas State football and basketball, the Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Glenn’s greatest pride was his family, who survive him: his beloved wife, Joanne Proctor; his children, Joe Proctor (Kelly) of Overland Park, Kansas, Brian Proctor (Todd Denmark) of Shawnee, Kansas, and Susan Jacobs (Kevin) of Irvine, California; his cherished grandchildren, Kelsey, Lindsey, Jake, and Macy Proctor, and Caden Jacobs; and his sisters, Ruth Holliday of Soldier, Kansas, Connie Crook of Lutz, Florida, Nancy Van Donge of Soldier, Kansas, and Mary Dickey of Cleveland, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.
