November 10, 2024 at 2:24pm Virginia “Gina” Martinez passed from this earth into eternity surrounded by her family.
Gina was born on October 27, 1944 in Topeka, Ks to Raymond C. Ortega and Virginia Ortega (Munoz). She graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka, Ks and St Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas and Providence School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kansas where she obtained degree as a registered nurse. She worked as a surgical nurse at St Francis Hospital for 30 years.
A lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, she was involved in many ministries. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed volunteering at church especially during the annual Fiesta Mexicana.
Gina was married in Topeka, Ks to Joe R Martinez, he survives. They eventually moved to Round Rock, Tx to be near their children and grandchildren. Together they were blessed with 57 years of marriage and formed a loving family with their children Damien (Kerrie) Martinez; Johanna “Joey” (Rick) Mercado; Patricia “Patsy” (Jeremy) Deaver and Xavier (Kortney) Martinez.
In 1995 with the birth of her first grandchild, Gina transitioned to “Grammie”. There are no words to describe the devotion and passion she poured into that role. Her spirit lives on through her 12 grandchildren: Christopher, Jacob and Emily; Michael, Alyssa and Benjamin; Camri, Vanessa, Sabrina and Payton; Elizabeth and Julia.
She is survived by her siblings Rose (Moises) Vega; Patricia (Norbert) “Blue” Adame; Raymond (Rebecca) Ortega; and Rick (Tina) Hernandez. She is preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou (Lupe) Escalante.
She has a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews each of whom carry a part of her in their hearts.
Services are currently pending and will be announced at a later time once arrangements have been finalized.
Our undying gratitude to all of her Topeka and Round Rock friends who are more precious than gold to her. Gina was a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mom, “Grammie” and the best friend one could ever have. Above all she was one of God’s most faithful daughters. We are heartbroken however, we know we are blessed to have loved her and been loved by her. We look forward to seeing her again.
Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.
Be the living expression of God's kindness. – Mother Theresa
