William "Bill" Francis Buxton

William “Bill” Francis Buxton, passed away on the 4th of January, 2021 at the age of 84 in Topeka, KS.

Bill was born on the 10th of August in 1936 in Topeka, KS. He was raised in Topeka and Grantville communities. He was the son of the late William H. and Helen M. (Jones) Buxton and step-son of the late Maynard C. Hook. Bill graduated from Perry Rural High School, Baker University, and St. Ambrose University.

Bill taught school in the Topeka School Systems for two years. Then he went to work for Deere & Company, working and living in the Quad Cities, Mannheim, Germany, and Dubuque, Iowa. Bill retired from Deere & Company in 1988 and returned to Topeka. In Topeka, Bill worked for the Kansas Departments of Transportation and Social and Rehabilitation Services. All of Bill’s work with Deere & Company and the State of Kansas was in the development, implementation, and management of computer systems.

Bill married Judith E. Henry in 1959. Three children resulted from the marriage; Sherrie R. (Tom) Drury of Brentwood, TN, William R. Buxton of Davenport, IA, and Michelle E. (Jim) Behmer of Evergreen, CO. All survive along with nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Bill and Judith divorced.

Bill married M. Janet (Bowers) Lutz in 1991. Janet survives, along with three step-children; Greg T. (Kathy) Lutz, Marc K. (Martha) Lutz, and Jami L. Herl all living in the Topeka area. Surviving too are seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two brothers, Thomas R. (Gayle) Buxton of Bettendorf, IA, and Robert M. (Diana) Hook of Silver Lake, KS.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M., with family being present from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M., at the Grantville United Methodist Church, 3724 South St., Grantville, KS 66429.

Funeral Services will take place on Friday, January 8 at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow at the Grantville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Grantville United Methodist Church. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
